Two small drawer moldings replaced & the hardware replaced after the Revolution during the reign of Napoleon I. Several locks lacking. Glorious color. WCH-675: A bold North Carolina Chest of Drawers in the Restauration Style, c.1835-45. Of solid cherry and walnut with yellow pine secondary, the chest brilliantly juxtaposes a diminutive size with an exaggerated set of contrasts: angles to curves, light to dark, herringbone solid wood effect from drawers to drawer and on each colomn. Even the galery repeats the angles that began on the scrolled feet. Replaced pulls and right back splash. Brushing slide, dentil molding & fluted canted corners all add refinement to this fine example. Oak secondary in all drawers with deal dust & back boards. The solid mahogany sides & drawer fronts indicate a North of England or Edinburgh origin. Apparently original bail & rosette pulls with a few post replacements.
