Secret locking mechanism for the till in the top center drawer. Turned, fluted legs. Superb construction in the finest Menuissier tradition. Two small drawer moldings replaced & the hardware replaced after the Revolution during the reign of Napoleon I. Several locks lacking. Glorious color. Superb, original condition lacking only the removable case. Lock #078424. Even the brass studs are signed. Original owners monogram on the end. WCH-675: A bold North Carolina Chest of Drawers in the Restauration Style, c.1835-45. Of solid cherry and walnut with yellow pine secondary, the chest brilliantly juxtaposes a diminutive size with an exaggerated set of contrasts: angles to curves, light to dark, herringbone solid wood effect from drawers to drawer and on each colomn. Even the galery repeats the angles that began on the scrolled feet. Replaced pulls and right back splash. Only a gifted craftsman could see such amazing possibilities in a cheery tree! 51"h., 36"w., 22"d. $2,900

A handsome English mahogany George III chest on chest, c.1765-80, raised on original bracket feet of considerable power. Brushing slide, dentil molding & fluted canted corners all add refinement to this fine example. Oak secondary in all drawers with deal dust & back boards. The solid mahogany sides & drawer fronts indicate a North of England or Edinburgh origin.
