WOF-1050: Louis XV Country French Buffet a Deux Corps:
A significant Louis XV period Buffet a Deux Corps, c. 1735-60, of gorgeous oak timber of the finest color. The original steel hinges and escutcheons are equally fine. The depth of carving in whorls, rondels, c and s scrolls - speaks to the finest craftsmanship. Note that the exceptional stock of the uprights is fully original, dynamically carved on the front feet and only slightly tipped on the rear feet. Deep aprons are found on all sides. Typical minor repairs. 92" high, 24 1/2" deep, 52 1/4" at widest point of body & 57" wide at molding. $16,500

WOF-1169z George II Bureau Bookcase:
A superb Early Georgian Walnut veneered bureau bookcase with gilt cartouche centered between broken arches with ogee moldings over a pair of mirrored doors enclosing a fitted interior with central compartments, drawers and hidden compartments. Columns with mounted capitols at the sides of the central cupboard. There are candle slides below the outer doors, above the fall front of the lower section which encloses a fitted interior of drawers, pigeon holes, a central cupboard flanked by column drawers and with hidden compartments and a stationary well. The outer fall with reading ledge and the whole over two small and two large drawers on bracket feet. The whole of rich color and beautifully figured timbers with the drawers banded and cross banded as are the sides of the cases, the mirrored doors and the pediments. The piece is Second and Third Phase construction in most details (a few earlier techniques are used, however). See Adam Bowett, "The Magazine Antiques", June 2002, pp.108-115, "A New Chronology for English Walnut Veneered Furniture, c.1670-1740". Oak and pine (deal) secondary woods. Third set of hardware. Pediment and feet original, but partially removed and then reinstalled at some rather early point. Wof-1494: A very good Louis XV-XVI transitional Vaisellier of cherry and burl cherry enhanced by original inlaid rondels in the valance and between the buffet drawers. The smartly, deeply shaped apron is inlaid with a large applewood diamond enclosing burl cherry wood. The stile between the doors is inlaid similarly with an upward pointing arrow. Deeply scalloped doors. Great quality original steel hardware indicative of late 18th century country French pieces. Dimensions: 55" w., 80 1/4" h., 24 3/8" d. $12,000

Wof-2002: Walnut Louis XV-XVI Buffet:
A superb quality, amazingly original 18th century Louis XV-XVI transitional Buffet of gloriously colored walnut with fine, mostly original steel hardware. This elegantly proportioned example, from the area between Lyon & Vienne, is raised on escargot carved feet. Typical of this region the door panels are cherry & the side panels are ash. Full, robust aprons on the front & sides. Oval carved medallion between the drawers is one of many aspects of the refinement found throughout this exceptional example. Wof-2093: Portugese Carved Bookcase on Cabinet:
A striking mid-19th century Portuguese Colonial carved rosewood Bookcase on Cabinet from Goa, raised on smartly turned feet. The naturalistic carving is carried throughout this handsome & useful piece. Most of the motifs speak to design from 1835, the circular reeded paterae door panels, the egg & dart moldings, the gadrooned edges & so forth. 53" w., 25 3/4" d., 65 1/2" h. $6,500

Wof-2112: Elm & Ash Buffet a Deux Corps:
A richly carved elm & ash Buffet a Deux Corps form Caux in Normandy (Cauchois), c.1830. The pronounced crown molding starts and stops with fluting, creating a dentil molding effect and the corners are carved in a drapery motif. The whole is lushly and deeply carved with flowers and foliage on the apron, doors and crest rail and used to particularly good effect along the central uprights - carrying the eye upwards. The feet have been tipped. The upper doors enclose shaped shelves, one with 2 attached drawers. 53" w., 21 1/4" d., 91" h. $14,000


WOF-2122z: Louis XIV/Regence Era Walnut Cabinet:
An early 18th century period Louis XIV/Regence era walnut Cabinet, the bold arched top repeats from door moldings to crown molding. Fan motifs repeat around panels, top & bottom. This intriguing piece consists of three visually separate sections - the upper case with shelves, the central ledger storage and the lower storage cabinet. The brass hardware is late 18th century - the original was iron or steel. Minor repairs typical of nearly 300 years of use. 35 3/4" w., 24 1/2" d., 85 7/8" h. $8,500

Wof-2137: Bonnetiere from Bresse, country French:
A late 18th century cherrywood Country French Bonnetiere from Bresse, brilliantly carved, inlaid & steel mounted. Note the clever bookmatching of the burl panels below the crown. Solid burl panels in the door. Carved roundels begin at the deeply scalloped apron panel & move up the face becoming a trio of flowers at the top of the door. The basket of flowers also repeats in inlays from base to crown. 41 1/2" w. (47 1/2" crown), 24 1/2" d. (27 1/2), 93" h. $9,500
