WCH-669: Early 18th Century George II Period Walnut Secretaire Chest on Chest:
A fine early 18th century George II period walnut Secretaire Chest on Chest, superbly veneered & inlaid with walnut herringbone. Desk drawer with old brown tooled leather. Turned ivory pulls, interior, and replaced (many times) brass drawer pulls. oak drawer linings & deal secondary in cases. Associated. Provenance: Christie's, London. 73" h., 40" w., 20 1/2" d. $12,000

WOF-1169z Early Georgian Bureau Bookcase:
A superb Early Georgian Walnut veneered bureau bookcase with gilt cartouche centered between broken arches with ogee moldings over a pair of mirrored doors enclosing a fitted interior with central compartments, drawers and hidden compartments. Columns with mounted capitols at the sides of the central cupboard. There are candle slides below the outer doors, above the fall front of the lower section which encloses a fitted interior of drawers, pigeon holes, a central cupboard flanked by column drawers and with hidden compartments and a stationary well. The outer fall with reading ledge and the whole over two small and two large drawers on bracket feet. The whole of rich color and beautifully figured timbers with the drawers banded and cross banded as are the sides of the cases, the mirrored doors and the pediments. The piece is Second and Third Phase construction in most details (a few earlier techniques are used, however). Pediment and feet original, but partially removed and then reinstalled at some rather early point. Provenance: Grosvenor House Antiques Show; William Blair Antiques; and the estate of a prominent American preservationist (name provided to purchaser). England, c.1715-1730. 95 1/2" high, 39" wide, 24" deep. $P.O.R.

Wof-2111b: Faux Bamboo Secretaire a Abatant:
A Napoleon III, c.1870's, Secretaire a Abatant. Beautifully figured bird's eye maple. Faux bamboo work of apple elaborately decorating all 3 sides and constituting the uprights. White inset marble top following the lines of the outset corner columns. Can double as a chest of drawers, with 3 drawers below the secretaire. The fall reveals a nearly untouched interior of the blondest bird's eye maple with crossbanding & turned knobs of contrasting wood. 33 " w., 16 1/2" d., 61" h. $3,500

Wof-2116: Rosewood Bureau Bookcase owned by John Barbirolli:
A rare, important & historic Chinese export rosewood Bureau Bookcase in the manner of Thomas Chippendale, c.1835. The astragal glazed doors enclose adjustable shelves (now glass). The slant-front encloses a well fitted interior. Raised on elegantly formed ogee bracket feet, the case of drawers & dividers boldly blocked in 9 sections. Fine brasses including carrying handles. Note the arches of the pigeon holes - pure Chinese taste. The 9 panel blocking repeats on the drawers. This splendid piece belonged to the late Sir John Barbirolli and Lady Barbirolli (the American oboist Evelyn Rothwell). Sir John was one of England's greatest conductors, as well as conductor of the NY Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, etc. Included are Lady Barbarolli's various gas ration booklet, Decorative Arts Society membership card & several bank cards. 39" w., 20 1/4" d. (32 3/8" open), 82" h. $18,000

Wof-2146: Georgian Bureau Bookcase:
A handsome George III Bureau Bookcase of mahogany, c.1780. 13-pane astragal glazed bookcase doors, enclosing adjustable shelves, under a replaced dentil crown molding. The fall revealing a well fitted interior with document drawers flanking the prospect door, each with barberpole line inlays, the door centered with an inlay of a classical urn. Boxwood inlays throughout and turned wooden knobs. Nice old leather. 2 over 3 drawers. The whole raised on original powerful ogee bracket feet. 43 3/4" w., 22 3/8" d., 89" h. $13,500
